Advancing Key Bilateral Agreements with Luxembourg

The Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg (ANZCCL) is pleased to announce the formation of a dedicated committee focused on advancing the establishment of a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) and a Social Security Agreement (SSA) between Luxembourg and Australia.

This committee, chaired by Maria Pawelek, Independent Director, and sponsored by Darren Shipard, ANZCCL Board member. It also includes members John Lee of Macquarie Group, Nicholas Montague, as well as Francisco Da Cunha, and Yves Knel from Deloitte.

The DTA/SSA Committee has been established in recognition of the need for these agreements to enhance business opportunities, support expatriates, and provide regulatory certainty for both businesses and individuals operating across Luxembourg and Australia. For individuals, this includes tangible benefits such as avoiding double taxation and simplified pension portability. For businesses, it offers reduced compliance burdens, increased investment confidence, and specific advantages in investment funds.

Through the Australian Embassy in Brussels and engagement with relevant governmental bodies, businesses, and stakeholders, the committee will advocate for the establishment of both agreements and provide essential support throughout the negotiation process.

As part of our commitment to comprehensive outreach, we intend to engage specifically with the Australian and Luxembourg Treasury departments. We will also liaise with other organisations that stand to significantly benefit from these agreements, including ALFI and Luxembourg for Finance.
